Where to Get Frozen Cocktails in Boston

Nothing beats the summer heat like an icy frozen cocktail! While I typically keep it simple with my drink choices (hello, Dirty Martini!), during the summertime, I love to treat myself to a frozen libation. When August imparts its record heat and humidity on us, the colder the cocktail, the better!

On a quest to find the best frozen drinks in Boston, I’ve sampled my fair share of mudslides and the like, and am rounding up my top picks on where to find the best frozen cocktails in the city. From here on out, any time the temperature reaches 90 degrees and above, you’ll find me sipping one of these!

Cheers!

The A-Lyst for the Best Frozen Drinks in Boston

The Automatic

Located in Cambridge’s Kendall Square, The Automatic offers three frozen cocktails (and often some additional frozen drink specials!) on its drink menu. I’m partial to the Frozen Blue-(ish) Margarita or Mudslide (the chocolate syrup is SO good), but if you’re heading there with friends, the Miami Vice for Two is the perfect way to kick off your night. Grab a board game from inside and ask for a table on the patio, so you can enjoy the summer air while playing some Connect Four and experiencing a brain freeze. 50 Hampshire Street, Cambridge, MA 02139

Hojoko

After you play a round of wasabi roulette (yes, this is a real thing at this Japanese tavern located in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood), you may need an icy cocktail to numb your taste buds! Hojoko offers a classic Pina Colada as well as a cocktail called the Japanese Caucasian, which blends vodka, cold brew coffee, coffee brandy and condensed milk together for a icy, creamy blend of caffeine goodness. 1271 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02215

The Landing at Long Wharf

If you want to feel like you are imbibing at a tropical resort while sitting in the middle of Boston, The Landing at Long Wharf is your spot. On a summer night, this place is always packed and never fails to deliver a fun, lively time. While the crowd often tends to skew a bit younger, I can’t resist stopping by at least once a summer to order one of their frozen drinks. They’re famous for their “fish bowl” drinks, but I favor the Strawberry Banana Smoothie frozen cocktail, which features Cruzan Banana Rum and strawberry mix. 1 Long Wharf, Boston, MA 02110

The Bar by the Elevator

As its name suggests, this is an outdoor bar situated by an elevator in Kendall Square. While the seating area is small, they always have at least one or two frozen cocktails ready to be poured.  I’ve sampled the frosé and frozen pain killer, both of which perfectly quench your thirst on a hot summer day, and I love how the staff is always ready to serve you with a friendly, laid back vibe. Not to mention, you can order a few small bites from the nearby (and very delicious) Mamaleh’s to enjoy as you drink. 1 Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA 02139

Citrus + Salt

By far one of the most Instagrammable restaurants in Boston (you can see my round-up on those here), Citrus + Salt also knows how to make a killer frozen drink. From frozen margaritas with various flavor add-ins to soft-serve mimosas to seasonal frozen watermelon rosé margaritas (appropriately called Adiós Pantalones), I absolutely love the drinks at this Back Bay coastal Mexican eatery. Since there is no outdoor seating, I prefer to come here on a rainy summer day, order some guacamole, and unwind. 142 Berkeley Street, Boston, MA 02116

Toro

Toro is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston, so it would only be natural that its “Boston” Gin + Tonic is one of my favorite frozen drinks this summer…plus, when have you EVER had a frozen G+T before? I certainly hadn’t! This icy cocktail is simple and delicious and pairs well with all of the mouthwatering tapas on Toro’s menu (don’t miss the Maíz Asado con Alioli y Queso Cotija and Hamburguesas, my two favorites!). 1704 Washington St, Boston, MA 02118
