Where to Buy Succulents, Air Plants, and Other Indoor Greenery in Boston

DSC07066

I’m a big fan of keeping plants in our home, but since my green thumb is still developing, I’m also a huge supporter of low-maintenance plants. You know, the kind that you can forget to water for days (i.e., weeks) on end and they miraculously still look semi-alive…

Succulents and air plants are two of my personal favorites. Perfect for bookshelves, window sills, and terrariums, both are unique looking and their care instructions are pretty straightforward. A total win-win!

Before investing in a plant, you should always scout the location in your home where you plan to put it. For example, assess the amount of sun exposure in that spot to ensure that you don’t end up buying a plant that can’t flourish in the given conditions. Once you know what type of plant will work in your home, it’s time to shop!

When I am on the hunt for new greenery, I love to check out the latest selections at my favorite places to buy plants in Boston. The next time you’re in the market for a new plant, I highly recommend taking a trip to one of my local picks.

Happy plant shopping!

The A-Lyst for Indoor Plant Shopping in Boston

Niche Urban Garden Supply

Just walking into this store makes me happy! Its sunny interior is literally covered in plants and every time I visit, I leave with something. An added feature is that for an extra $2, Niche will pot your small plants for you, which is great when you are in a pinch and need a quick hostess gift! 619 Tremont Street, Boston, MA 02118

Sunny Florist

This Southie spot offers an amazing selection of air plants as well as larger house plants, such as everyone’s favorite statement tree, the fig. If you are looking to make a terrarium, the store also offers countless supplies. 9 West Broadway, South Boston, MA 02127

Ricky’s Flower Market

Beyond boasting an array of excellent indoor plants, like cactus and succulents, Ricky’s has a fairly expansive outdoor area with flowers for your urban garden. I love coming here to stock up on air plants and plant accessories. 238 Washington Street, Somerville, MA 02143

Table & Tulip

Tucked away off of Shawmut Avenue in the South End, Table & Tulip has a small, but beautiful selection of succulents. Since the shop focuses on providing floral design for social events, they sell beautiful pots (think gold squares and speckled glass) and the staff has a great eye for style. 461 Shawmut Avenue, Boston, MA 02118

West Elm

The Fenway outpost of West Elm has a section of terrarium supplies and a team that’s ready to help you complement your home’s interior design with plants. I especially love their plant holders, including this cube terrarium trio160 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215

Seed to Stem

If you’re up for an excursion to Worcester, this spot is pretty spectacular! Filled to the brim with household plants and uber cool knick-knacks for the home, the interior of the shop is straight out of a magazine. 138 Green Street #1, Worcester, MA 01604

Mahoney’s Garden Centers

This family-run garden shop has eight locations throughout the Boston area and is great for both indoor and outdoor greenery. From jade plants to orchids, the greenhouse offers a wide selection of hearty plants for the house, alongside your standard fall garden picks, like mums, for the outdoors. My favorite location is in Winchester (it’s huge!), but the closest to Boston is Brighton. 449 Western Avenue, Brighton, MA 02135
