In the beginning of November, my mom and I took a “girls trip” to Bermuda. While I had traveled to this beautiful destination when I was in high school, I didn’t remember how much I loved it until we started exploring this lush and well-kept archipelago of seven islands. Only a two hour flight from Boston, Bermuda is truly the perfect paradise for sun-deprived New Englanders!
Early spring or late fall are the best times to visit Bermuda, as the temperatures are favorable and the crowds and cruise ship traffic are less prominent. We went at the very end of the fall season and it was the perfect temperature for exploring and laying out in the sun – not to mention, at points, we felt like we had all of the Hamilton Princess to ourselves!
While Bermuda is only 22-miles-long and very easy to explore (I would recommend renting a car if you want to see a lot of the area, as taxis are extremely expensive!), there are several areas you can stay in during your visit there. We chose the city of Hamilton as our base, which has a great restaurant and bustling commercial area on Front Street, however; when I go back, I would likely stay in Tucker’s Town (The Loren at Pink Beach has rave reviews) or Hamilton Parish (Rosewood Bermuda looks stunning!) for a different perspective and easier access to the beach. The Hamilton Princess does has a private beach area in Southhampton with complimentary shuttles, so if you want the perfect mix of city and beach, it’s a great option. Another great choice would be to stay along the famed Elbow Beach, which offers picture-perfect blue ocean and Bermuda’s quintessential pink sand (which, I’ll be honest, doesn’t always look very pink!).
One of my favorite things we did during our long weekend trip was to explore the town of St. George’s, which is on St. George’s Island in Bermuda and known for being the territory’s first English settlements.
Rich with history, this little town had so many cute streets to wander and interesting things to see, such as the picturesque St. Peter’s Church and the super cool Unfinished Church.
My mom and I especially enjoyed a quaint afternoon tea in the garden at Lili Bermuda Perfumery. Since Bermuda is owned by the British, you’ll find many great options for afternoon tea — other favorites were at the Conservatory Bar and Lounge at the Rosewood Bermuda as well as the Relais + Châteaux property, Rosedon Hotel.
The stunning beaches of Bermuda are not to be missed. Make sure to visit Horseshoe Bay, Elbow Beach, Warwick Long Beach (and check out the nearby Jobson’s Cove, which is Instagram heaven), and Tobacco Bay Beach.
Finally, if you have inclement weather, a few great indoor options are enjoying a famous Rum Swizzle at the Swizzle Inn and visiting the nearby Crystal Caves.
